"amazing the youth today, right?"
jonat and josh dragged me off to the ateneo yesterday morning, bribing me with free lunch. between then and now a number of "blogworthy" [as jonat put it] events have taken place, of which those i can remember will be narrated in chronological order:
i. choknut ice cream
i bought p25 worth of load at the 7-11 and they gave me free ice cream. cool. and not half-bad either.
ii. sit-in
psychology was a lot of fun since there was no lesson, just a short quiz and a game. if i had taken the quiz i would've gotten a 7 over 10. if that's any indication then genpsyc will be a breeze. since the quiz was relatively difficult, the game was for plus points: if you drew a pink square of paper, you had to answer a psychology-related question; if white, then a trivia question; and if yellow, you had to sing and|or dance out the answer. plus i got to see esmas* in action. jonat had some kind of computer subject afterward about databasing. that was boring but i got to check out their long test in excel programming so i guess i broke even.
iii. generation xy
we went to mr kabab [on quezon avenue, if you're interested] and just sat down and talked. they say that if you don't see a college friend for a couple of years, it's hard to think where to begin but if it were a high school friend, you just pick up where you left off. in related news, i for one like being part of generation xy - just the right balance of liberality and conservatism. plus i can remember when opm was still *original* pilipino music. mtv's rock the vote ads feature a lot of songs by the eraserheads. could they be hinting at a reunion set at the concert? improbable but not impossible.
iv. reckless driving
a bus cut us off somewhere along edsa. i was amused to notice that the last two digits of the phone numbers to call if the driver was being reckless had been sandpapered out.
v. powerbooks
since i had a couple of hours to kill before my tutoring session, i dropped by the g3 powerbooks to finish off books ix and x of
the sandman. i was halfway to salcedo before i discovered that an extremely large announcement tag had become stuck on the back of my shirt from when i was leaning against the bookshelf. apparantly this is the other reason why you have to remain standing while reading through a book [aside from not causing a traffic jam in the aisle].
vi. random weirdness
there are two trees in salcedo park [on toledo corner lp leviste] that share a branch. rather strange considering that the trees are at least three meters apart and one is flowering while the other is not [i'm assuming that a single tree would flower uniformly]. in addition, i now have tanlines on my feet from wearing sandals all the time. and i suppose it would interest you to know [if you're from gox] that sanam and i were classmates [seatmates, no less] in kindergarten and even partners in some school program. i *had* pictures, but she took them. small world, eh?
that's it as far as i know. i'm sure jonat will comment if i've missed anything.

esmas: the atenean equivalent of zoltan, but with a spine. quite the loudmouth as well. my newest theorem is that dlsu and admu always have parallels when it comes to negative publicity [take for example
pbeautista versus
caffeinerush].
"words taste like peaches today."
i. the lsyc retreat
was ok. there were only three retreatants so the facilitators were just mostly sitting around and talking or playing the guitar or whatever. jonat brought a copy of
the best of science fiction 2003 and let me browse through jeffrey ford's
the empire of ice cream and david d. levine's
the tale of the golden eagle. cool isn't the half of it.
highlight 1: discovering three cups of ms padua's broken glass gelatin in the ref.
highlight 2: jonat falling down the stairs.
ii. maan's debut
was basically our first batch reunion. strange how suddenly everybody knows everybody else. except for classmates or friends, we really didn't pay much attention to each other back in high school. i guess it's the same as hating your siblings until they move out.
highlight: jonat saying "
ayoko siya." in a loud voice exactly as the cotillion music stopped playing. although i must clarify that he was not referring to the dance, popular opinion holds otherwise.
iii. the
palaro ng bayanwas slightly worse than it was better.
kuya maynard lost his mind and put me in charge but luckily regained his sanity a day before and took charge of it himself. i now feel that the youth need discpline more than they do education. i won't even mind if ping lacson wins and installs martial law, as long as he knows what he's doing.
highlight:
agawang-buko a.k.a. wrestlemania xxi
my job's going fine, thanks for asking.

annyung, omma
since my mom's meeting her sisters in korea before their tour of eastern europe, she decided to get her hair cut at a korean beauty parlor. from the back she looks uncannily like rico blanco from their video
balisong. evidently for koreans, people with long hair are considered financially challenged, the logic being they don't have the money to spend on a decent haircut.
for her despidida we had shinramyun [spicy korean noodles] and double dutch ice cream. i dunno why i mentioned that. probably to make this entry longer. owel.

dog days
the past three days were extremely boring. of course this means that i'll be busy for the next three, at least. it's kind of like that biblical years-of-plenty-followed-by-years-of-famine thing.
today i met up with the kids i'll be tutoring this summer. talk about easy money. methinks i'll continue with one of them even after school starts. my classes end by 230 anyway.
in addition to
diablo ii i've started
pokémon sapphire over. yes i am aware that i am now legally considered an adult. so what.
maan's debut is on saturday and i have absolutely no idea how i am to get there, only that i must somehow. maybe i should drop by the lsyc retreat beforehand. that way i can take advantage of jonat or mikey or joe or whoever.

epilogue
omg. tristan passed me. wtf.
i was going to write a lengthy post about the lessons i supposedly learned from this experience but i'm kinda at a loss for words right now. maybe later.
my apologies to those who were under the impression that i didn't pass. it appears that i was 'misinformed'. thanks a lot, frytz.

game over
that's it. i failed anmath1.
does anyone know where i can get a job?
endgame
i need a 67 to pass anmath1. not bad actually, but i'm not sure if that's a 67% or a 67 over something. hope it's a percentage. anyway i'm off to school for a defense and later to [gak] study for the finals.

update: it's 67%, thank god. but somehow that's just as bad.
in limbo
i.
two weeks' noticestrange. we've had a copy lying around the house for at least a year and i've only watched it now. the movie is very witty, to say the least.
ii. haruki murakami
i'm yoinking this link from tere:
on seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful april morning. you won't regret clicking on it.
iii. apprehensions
i'm getting really worried about my anmath1 grade. i spent most of yesterday afternoon deliriously computing the minimum score i should get in the finals to pass given various failing and borderline scores* in my fourth quiz, which hasn't been returned yet. now i have a better reason to hate mondays.

failing and borderline scores: getting anything higher would be tantamount to a miracle.
why compute for that?
bad karma
i. four seasons pearl cooler with spatula bits
how the hell do bite-size plastic chunks end up in a pearl cooler? and from a spatula!? does csi have a local unit?
ii. goodbye snoop dog, hello winona ryder
why is it that nobody understands that i *like* looking old and homeless?
sige ingat.ü
wasted
hell term is almost over. just submitted the second dasalgo mp and the encomp thesis final draft. got a 72.5% in the cisco finals so i'll be getting a certificate of something or the other. tristan is in charge of our anmath finals. god no.

parting shots
i. new eb
belated congratulations to the new editorial board of malate. you know who you are [in case i don't].
ii.
the passion of the christ
i dunno about good but it was cool. yes it was gory. yes i am apathetic.
iii. going mainstream
strangebrew is going to be aired on studio23 and
the happy tree friends on mtv pilipinas. wtf.
iv. freshman admissions
anytime.

failure is not an option
tristan "pink socks" reyes seems determined to fail me on account of misplaced equal signs and missing limit symbols. but he won't. as long as i get at least a 1.0 in my class standing, i need only 40% in my finals to pass. but who said anything about just passing?
i got a 100 for my jbank defense. not bad for a rush job. frytz and i got an 85 for our simtower defense, which is a lot more than we had expected. the kicker is that if we had managed to get our elevators to work right, we could've gotten a 120*. a 4.0 in objectp would've made it easier to think of making the dean's list but that's life.
two down, two to go.

120: we had 25 plus points worth of added features but since our main program wasn't all that, they weren't credited.
owel.
