the terrorist, he's watching
by wislawa szymborska
the bomb in the bar will explode at thirteen twenty.
now it's just thirteen sixteen.
there's still time for some to go in,
and some to come out.
the terrorist has already crossed the street.
the distance keeps him out of danger,
and what a view - just like the movies:
a woman in a yellow jacket, she's going in.
a man in dark glasses, he's coming out.
teenagers in jeans, they're talking.
thirteen seventeen and four seconds.
the short one, he's lucky, he's getting on a scooter,
but the tall one, he's going in.
thirteen seventeen and forty seconds.
that girl, she's walking along with a green ribbon in her hair.
but then a bus suddenly pulls in front of her.
thirteen eighteen.
the girl's gone.
was she that dumb, did she go in or not,
we'll see when they carry them out.
thirteen nineteen.
somehow no one's going in.
another guy, fat, bald, is leaving, though.
wait a second, looks like he's looking for something in his pockets and
at thirteen twenty minus ten seconds
he goes back in for his crummy gloves.
thirteen twenty exactly.
this waiting, it's taking forever.
any second now.
no, not yet.
yes, now.
the bomb, it explodes.sige ingat.ü
déjà vu
we passed diego castillo [guitars, sandwich] twice, my sister and her friends twice, some large fag in white
pekpek shorts twice, and two of jendee's friends four times [not counting their being in the same jeep as us on the way to atc in the first place]. additionally, after the third time you walk by the same store within thirty minutes, you start to notice how small atc really is.
freaky.
maybe it
is because i'm a gemini.

firsts
our
manang ran off two days ago, but she didn't steal anything. you have to give her kudos for that. turns out she was hiding from a loanshark, who conveniently showed up about two hours after we'd found the farewell note.
first day wasn't as thrilling as i'd hoped it would be. i feel kinda empty actually, like i'd eaten a good meal followed by bad desserts, or like i missed something important.
god, the drama.
i really want to do better this term. judging from the first day, i at least don't have any blatantly bad teachers. of course last term's first day i'd thought charette had a sense of humor and tristan was a sure
kwatro.

capital sins
first off, a belated happy birthday to chami, jp, and anyone else i might have forgotten.
went to school yesterday to enroll, then went bowling afterwards with bj, vince, lyn [bj's cousin], and the aforementioned jp [
salamat ulit sa libre]. what a horrible game. can't wait to become rich enough to install my own alley at home.
dinner followed at the westin hotel. i'd promised bj that i'd honor him with a double serving of rice, but at 90 pesos each, that turned out to be an impossibility. what we did have though were
kway teow,
nasi goreng, jambalaya, skewered prawns, and battered salmon, followed by blueberry cheesecake with three sauces, and gourmet coffee. i asked the waiter where the coffee came from [africa perhaps? latin america?] and he replied that they grew the beans in batangas. well there's honor for you.
at the next table over, there was a japanese tourist who ordered a beer ["that will be 120 pesos, sir"], then paid for it in one-peso coins. now i've seen everything.
exploring the hotel with my sister, i came across the hotel lounge, which was sunk two feet into the ground and furnished in the japanese style - futons, low tables,
ikebana, and decorative kimonos. you know what they say about
great artists stealing.

weird science
a tornado hit nueva ecija yesterday. wicked. i didn't know we had those here. big-ass ones, at least. i remember that there used to be a whirlwind of leaves dancing around in the intersection between the four gloriettas. but then they renovated something, thereby changing the wind patterns, and it was goodbye cool weather formation. there's the butterfly effect for you. i'm not referring to the movie, in case you're wondering.
the
da vinci code's

another day in paradise
crashed the lpep with paco and chudor. or at least that was the idea. paco met up with bunny so chudor and i hung around the student council office instead. turns out that the frosh this year are getting a welcome cd with games, sample mps, and such. i don't recall last year's council being that generous. the worst part is that the cd also contains detailed instructions on how to set up the school internet account. god knows the server's already way too crowded.
noonish we decided to go to g4 and watch a movie. the lrt was naturally crowded so i wasn't able to push my way inside much. at one of the stops some loudmouth called back "
'wag ka ngang nakaharang sa daan,
para kang gago!" at me.
asshole.
nakababa ka naman diba!?
ended up watching
van helsing. paco said dracula was a fag. i both concur and beg to differ. it was the 15th century - everyone was gay. except back then they called it 'sensual'. besides, vampires are supposed to be metrosexual [this is the first and last time i am using this term in printed media].
chudor will probably kill me if i don't plug
air gear so i might as well. the manga is at the very least extremely well-drawn, and i suppose i must mention the gratuitous fan service. wish there was an animated version though.
the i of the dragon [a game this time] looks enticing as well. perhaps after i upgrade. oh, and if anyone has a working
septerra core cd, i will purchase it from you for a reasonable price. just drop me a line or two.

my mom just came back from korea. aside from the usual pickled vegetables and gadgets [my uncle works for microsoft], she brought back a couple or so things that i felt were blogworthy:
i. electric bug zapper
it's shaped like a tennis racket and has a sillhouette of a rabbit holding a carrot on the mesh. evidently you swing it wildly overhead and it fries any bugs it hits. my sister says she saw one just like ours on
mtv whatever things.
ii. dickwatch
this is a belt with a watch on the buckle. pretty cool actually, at least when it's still in your hand. but how do you check the time in public without looking like a pervert?
iii. stainless steel soap
it's supposed to remove odors when you rub it on your skin. from my experience it just makes you smell like stainless steel. but the metallic tang does overpower any original scents so technically it works.
she also brought back two microsoft shirts. one even says "doing the right thing" on the back. talk about your oxymorons. at least i found out she was serious about upgrading our pc [finally]. i'll spend the next week or so canvassing before i purchase anything so until then any advice is welcome.

as of namfrel's 12mn count, fpj is leading. i'm doublethinking whether he really is the greater evil. which is worse, a puppet government or a dictatorship? gma does command more respect from other countries but she kisses bush's ass like nobody's business. the problem with this situation is that we can't help but assume that fpj is totally incompetent. i'm not saying that he is or isn't, just that he at least has some semblance of heart. amateurs built the ark; professionals built the titanic. but it really doesn't matter. whoever wins,
we lose. heart attack or cancer - it's your call.

when i got home
manang informed us that she had bought a couple of vcds at sm bicutan, namely

jeepers creepers first then she put in
hellboy, to take her mind off the former before going to bed [which she did after ten minutes]. i on the other hand made the mistake of walking past the tv sometime later and sitting down, fully intending to just finish off the first half.
which brings me here, two discs and a headache later. i should really stop convincing myself i can quit mid-movie. that's like asking me to stop reading mid-sentence. hell, i can't even stop reading mid-chapter. owel i'll just check up on a few blogs before hitting the sack.
