living up to one's name

ILOILO Representative Rolex Suplico yesterday said he was planning to sue the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. after a store in Tokyo, Japan, refused to honor his HSBC credit card as he tried to buy two Rolex watches.

Suplico said he was “publicly humiliated” when a store clerk practically told him the HSBC credit card he handed over was stolen.

He said he was “extremely embarrassed” because there were many people in the store, including two other Filipino congressmen -- Pangasinan Rep. Amado Espino and Iloilo Rep. Ferjenel Biron who were also buying Rolex watches which were on sale.

well now, don't that beat all.

heaven forbid that a man as important as representative suplico be subjected to the utter humiliation and mental anguish of being called, of all things, a thief! what injustice is this that he be asked to verify his identity, as if through some inconceivability, they did not know who he was? and what's more, they dare respond with apologies instead of monetary compensation!?

it simply begs the question - what is this world coming to?
