i caught the last episode of
the amazing race because i'd heard that the 12th leg would be here in the philippines. usually i enjoy it when villains triumph but this time i'd rather have seen colin and christie win. they put more effort into every leg of the race, as compared to chip and kim who just got lucky at the very end. moving on, it's strange how both palawan and manila look so peaceful and clean on tv. maybe that's what makes us so xenocentric - too much american television.
dlsu lost game two so we had classes today. here's an excerpt from my introso reaction paper on the movie
fight for us:
The plot is designed in such a way that the viewer will feel dissatisfied through the denoument: first, the deaths of Camillo and Ester are sudden, compared to the overall slow pace of the film's events unfolding, and the antagonists are exonerated of the crime. Second, even if Kapitan Kontra did die, it was not by Jimmy’s hand, ergo Jimmy was never able to actualize his revenge. And third, the last scene presents Jimmy returning to the underground, a position that, if you think about it, will offer him neither relief nor vengeance. These three points contrast heavily with our idea of how the movie should have run, with the hero running to the rescue in the nick of time, facing the villain one-on-one, and emerging victorious to claim his happy ending. This discomfort, I believe, is exactly what Lino Brocka wants to elicit from the viewers — we empathize with the helplessness of the hero, and it is empathy which he is counting on to lead to social action.jimmy is the protagonist, camillo and ester are his son and lover respectively, and kapitan kontra is the main antagonist. it really is a good movie, but you'll probably only be able to appreciate it if you've lived through the post-marcos era.
ms whats-her-face [i still don't know her name, but she resembles queen latifah, for reference's sake] gave us our first quiz. omfg. the way things went, i'd probably get a higher grade on an eye exam. considering that temperature is directly proportional to knowledge [in filipino,
malamig 'pag wala kang alam], it figures that my introso and comorga classes are in g212.
this is the official site of the hollywood version of
the grudge. you'll never guess who's headlining it, but i'm holding my tongue for now. who knows, it might actually be worth watching. i for one enjoyed the remake of
the ring better than the original. either way, the site's worth a look - it's got a minigame similar to
donniedarko.com's.
band auditions and the comorga deptest are both on friday. the archers better win this time.
