announcement

i. literary awards

first off, congratulations to pb and soyster for winning first place in the poetry and prose categories, respectively.

the pops orchestra played himala [which was bad] and tindahan ni aling nena [which was jaw-dropping] for their first intermission number. the second was of course that man in the mirror guy.

after we were done with the ceremonies and the free food, most of the staffers [myself included] went to malate to have a few rounds. the district, not the office, since we weren't in the mood for covert ops. we chose a bar located in what appeared to have originally been the parking lot of a familiar-looking curved building, and when i looked left, i saw an even more familiar-looking store with metal phalluses for doorknobs.

ah yes, the sex toy shop from our filip1 thesis. such fond memories. i still can't believe [sure i can't] that i got a 4.0 for 'researching' local nightlife hotspots. well, that and the script from hell.

ii. saturday morning cartoons

aleck held the bulk of the prose staff meeting at the green place. we close-read two pieces then had a short writing activity. nothing new from when i was a poetry staffer, except we also discussed the stories' weak points. of course, it's moot to bitch out a published piece - that's like dissing britney spears. but it does help concretize what not to do as a writer.

after that, jomic invited cara, reggie, and myself to casa ang [makati chapter] for a post-birthday celebration. we stayed until around 7pm.

at this point, i had to go home and change since my next stop was the debut of sam's sister. but by the time i had reached bicutan, my mother sent me a text message, informing me that she had not counted on my returning home and thus had brought the house keys with her. i then had no choice but to go to the debut as is, sandals and all.

i don't know which was worse - the genocide of 214 and huwag na huwag mong sasabihin [which is bad enough as it is], or the sight of one of the debutante's 'friends' dancing with her mother.

higop na 'yon, tsong.

iii. movie marathon

without a paddle was funny, but forgettable. it had the best gay innuendo scene i've seen so far, though.

windstruck was disappointing. despite the fact that it was supposedly a prequel, the movie suffered heavily from sequel syndrome, which is to say that it was disappointing. tae-hyeon cha [gyeon-woo] looks like smokey manaloto. whoops, spoiler.

the classic was much better, but the ending was much too contrived for my taste. and i thought my sassy girl was pushing it. i still recommend it, though, since everything before the last 10 minutes was good. oh, and if anyone can find me an mp3 of i to you, you to me by scenery of riding bicycle [the movie's theme], it'd be greatly appreciated.

iv. politically correct

according to today's probsta lesson, mission impossible is a misnomer. it should actually be mission improbable since ethan hunt survived both times.

gameshow hosts should announce winning permutations, since only the lottery honors different combinations of the same digits.

and banana-ques are actually banana-stacks, since they're eaten in last in, first out order.

it feels good to actually learn something useful.
