new year's resolution
taking a page from dux, mine is 1152x864.
seeing as that won't be at all funny to the non-digerati, let's see what i can bullshit up as supposed deeper meaning:
the current standard resolution is 1024x768. because mine is higher, it's a reminder to give more than just standard output.
since everything becomes smaller, it's a reminder not to divide things into "big stuff" and "small stuff", but rather to treat all my commitments equally, as well as to read the fine print in every situation, since under a higher resolution, everything becomes fine print.
a lot of my friends also have resolutions greater than or equal to mine. therefore, i am reminded to pick friends not on the basis of popularity, but rather common interest.
and lastly, 1152x864 is the maximum resolution my monitor can dish out, which reminds me not to settle for half-ass when i can give both cheeks.
so there.
anyway, the last year was rather disappointing, which ironically ran contrary to my chinese zodiac's forecast. but then again, experience surely is the best teacher, and i learned [albeit a bit late] some more indispensible college survival tips:
never give up on passing a subject, even if the odds are against you. stranger things have happened.
attend classes regularly, ask a lot of pertinent questions, and if needed, schedule time for consultation. this is actually a very effective covert ass-kissing technique.
get a haircut and|or shave before an important test or presentation. the image and subsequent confidence boosts will work wonders.
it is possible to pass a subject even after failing two departmental exams, but three is pushing your luck.
if a test or paper isn't returned and you aren't sure if you scored well enough, ask for it. this knowledge could spell the difference between passing and failing.
make sure you have a hobby. that way, you'll be sure to stay sane when hell week rolls around. and there's nothing wrong with playing computer games half as much as you code, even if the program's due the next day, just so long as you're sure to get it done.
it is possible to fail non-academic subjects, especially when it's only a two-day affair. in such cases, enroll in a class with responsible friends, if possible.
and the most important lesson of 2004 is: "well
iba sa college...
kailangan mag-adjust
sa diverse personalities
ng mga tao."
sige ingat.ΓΌ
