mortal sins

i. maputi

traveling home from school last friday, i was walking to the pasay rotonda from where my last jeep had stopped. a pimp jumped out at me from one of the alleys offering a good time. "babae, boss. maputi."

i said no thanks, but in hindsight should have asked how much first. a low quotation would have proven my stand that practical feminism is non-existent.

ii. ama namin

while attending the 7pm sunday mass, i had the misfortune to have a couple with two noisy kids seated directly in front of me. i tried shutting out their incessant yammering as best i could, but lost it when one of them, mid-our father, suddenly cried out "mommy, basa puwit mo!" for the whole congregation to hear.

it must've reached the choir organist's ears, because he started missing a few notes here and there. the mother tried to shush her daughter, but only succeeded in eliciting a fatal "'di nga, tignan mo!" from her in response.

it was at this point that the organist stopped playing entirely.

this is exactly why i won't bring my kids to church until they're of reasonable age. i'll just let them stay home and watch the mass on tv, if they want. actually going to church will then seem like a privilege and not a chore.
