monday was an interesting day. i got off the lrt at edsa station well before the usual 6:30pm, theoretically giving me enough time to either stop for a quick bite, or clock in early enough to finish my tutoring duties by 8:30. these plans were quickly dashed when i caught sight of the queue to enter the mrt station, which had already extended over half the bridge connecting lrt and mrt.

i stood silently through the wait and the heat and the negative energy [really, anger is contagious], the harsh exchange between the security guard and some loudmouth paimportante, even two men cutting me off in line. i was silent throughout waiting for my train to start, being told that it had "broken down" and that we should transfer to the other train [which was already overflowing with passengers], anticipating the next train and asserting my right to enter, being pushed to the far side by a mob from the other train [evidently, it had "broken down" as well], until the final announcement that services had been suspended, and that we should exit the station asap.

and you know something, i didn't mind at all. i didn't mind the two hours i wasted at the station, the money i spent for my ticket, even the fact that i had to take a bus after all my effort. there are just some things that don't matter, in the face of thesis worries. a wonderful thing, thesis. it really gives you perspective.

on the last leg of my journey home, the wealthy-looking woman beside me paid eight pesos for her jeepney fare, and spent a full two minutes scolding the 'conductor' when he failed to give her her change back.

she really should get a second degree in something. that'll learn her.
