pananacquiao

i truly cannot understand why there has to be so much fanfare about his win over the clearly-underprepared morales. even his so-called unification of the filipino people is a joke. wrestlers don't win best comedy or drama performance oscars, so why is it exactly that manny pacquiao has an apparantly-popular music cd [note the dignity with which he poses for the album cover]?

it only serves to prove the desperation with which we are searching for some symbol of hope, even elevating an athlete to the status of a national hero [different from how one would honor a national treasure, which morales was for his native mexico]. at this point, the only appreciation i have for pacquiao [he has money; he doesn't need our fervent veneration] is the fact that certain politicians are lobbying to declare friday a non-working holiday, which will mean postponed quizzes in network and jprizal.

don't even ask me if a movie is in the works - you know it is.

Amen to that! Definitely agree with you here. He has done well, a win is a win, he gets our respect. Still, will he lift the state of poverty in our nation? Bring HOPE and UNITY, yes, but it is still up to the masses to slug it out poverty, not Manny!

Heard during the coverage on tv after the fight--
"Sana araw-araw ang laban ni Pacquiao para araw-araw din magkaisa ang mga Pilipino." <--Referring to politicians on opposing sides watching the fight in one cinema.

Anobuzz.

On the news--
"Oo excited kami sa pag-uwi niya dito. Lalo na kapag namigay siya ng mga balato namin..." <--Pacquiao's kababayan in the news

Weh.
